Here at Boogalgopal, we began our weaning in early May and are happy to report that despite the lack of a good season in our part of the Burnett, the cows did a superb job on the weaners and all are back and settled in their new paddocks.
The breeders have settled down well also and hopefully the paddocks will receive some rain before they are due to start calving in late Winter/September. With only 10 inches rolling rainfall (May to May), the season has not been the brightest in the breeder paddocks although some decent rain certainly fell in other parts of the property in March.
The Covid 19 crisis has affected us all, but we are thankful that our day to day life has continued much as normal and the usual daily running of the property has kept us quite isolated !
Our grass reared bulls will be ready as usual for sale direct from the property ( at our Glenleigh Bull Depot) and already we have had many interested parties inspecting our current crop of weaners and breeders. The bulls will be tested this week and soon after will be available for inspection.
We look forward to welcoming visitors over the coming bull selling season.

Processing weaners.
All weaners are weighed with tissue samples (TSU) taken from the stud weaners to establish the genetic potential of the animal at an earlier age. Selection on the phenotype of the animal, along with the DNA results obtained, work together to help make more accurate breeding decisions.
After a week in the yards, all commercial steers and heifers are walked back to new paddocks……
…………while the Boogal Stud group are walked back to the home yards where a few more days of assessment is carried out.
Boogal Stud Brahman and Charbray weaner bulls, along with Brahman stud weaner heifers , walking back to the home yards
Arriving at the Home Yards
Additional pressure is placed on the weaners in the round yard to assess temperament and check paper work etc
Good temperament is a prime consideration throughout our herd and the weaners love and crave the attention !
The grandkids are always happy to talk to the weaners !
Weaners are then walked to their new fresh, spelled paddocks where they will grow out until ready to offer as working bulls.

Meanwhile as we head in to winter , we have been treated to some glorious day, some magnificent skies and sunsets, along with some freezing cold days!
