Despite a very dry start to 2019 where we received no rain in January  and a lucky 110 mms in February/ March, we were extremely pleased with the quality of our weaners….both stud and commercial. We have recorded no more rain in April, May and June and as expected , the outlook is definitely not as we would like !! However, weaning weights have been excellent and both Charbray and Brahman weaner bulls and heifers are looking a treat.

Drafting

With weaners all drafted off, and mothers back in their paddocks, weaners are weighed,  and kept in the yards for a week or so  before being taken to new paddocks

Stud weaners are brought to the home yards for another week so that further assessment can be made, records verified and temperament assessed.

Once at the home yards, weaners are put under closer pressure to test for temperament before being let out in to a small paddock each day.

Once happy with the group, weaners are let out for the final time and droved over to a scrub paddock where the young bulls will grow up on grass pastures only …. ready for sale the following year.

Meanwhile, the cows are enjoying a ‘calf-free  sunset’ back in the paddock!

Cheers for now !
