After 10 days or so in the yards , this week saw the new weaners(No 2) all weighed and ready for independence!  All commercial steers and heifers are now in their new  paddocks.
Here we follow the young commercial weaner steers on their journey – 20 kilometres and 5 hours of tailing the mob up Boogalgopal Creek and into the buffel and green panic of the scrub where they will settle down to become our future prime grass fed steers.
Stud weaner bulls and heifers are also back at the  house yards where they will be further drafted over the next few weeks.

Commercial weaner steers are moved through the Main Yards on the way out to the paddock.

Early sunlight catches the Red Natal grass as the weaner steers move out into a ‘cooler yard ‘

A few minutes along and the mob is settled beautifully and walking out well.

A drink along the way

Weaner steers enjoy a drink at a creek crossing

We turn up onto the black soil flats at Lindsay’s Bore on the final few kilometres – (it seems to be an unspoken rule that the black steer will always turn up at the front of the mob !!!!)

We cross the black soil -climbing towards the scrub

Jet streams in the sky suggest the prediction of the Weather Bureau’s 100% chance of good rain could be right for once !!!!
(Wasn’t to be !!)

Lance rides along with the escarpment cliffs as backdrop

Dan counts the weaner steers out into their final destination

Finally – ‘Independence Day’ has truly arrived and the weaner steers are now left to settle down on the pasture on their own.

Another milestone completed on the way to becoming Prime Grass Fed Steers
